20th Anniversary of “Boyz in the Hood”
On June 23rd, the LA Film Festival will be screening “Boyz in the Hood” to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The event, hosted by the Blackhouse and SAG Affirmative Action and Diversity, will celebrate John Singleton’s classic American tale of a group of childhood friends growing up in a South Central Los Angeles. Singleton became the first African American to be nominated for an Academy Award in directing, and his cast of then virtually unknowns went on to become stars.
